HELP WITH FENDERS

Because of their size, large fenders may have a tendency to move around in strong winds.  If this is causing you a problem, put some water inside the fender to weigh it down.
Before you inflate the fender, lock the valve open and put a couple of litres of fresh water inside the fender with a hose, unlock the valve then blow it up like normal. The water will sit in the bottom of the fender and stop it from moving around so much.  When doing this, be sure to have the valve located at the top of the fender so the water doesn't sit against the valve.

As a rule of thumb, Hauraki Fenders should be hung vertically whenever possible and when rafting with other boats.  The fenders should be hung horizontally when rafting against poles.  Always position your fenders so they will not be overloaded or damaged should you experience a large set of waves.

PRODUCT RELATED QUESTIONS

Hauraki Fenders are constructed from heavy duty reinforced 1.2mm thick PVC fabric.  The seams and attachments are heat welded together with doubler tapes in a controlled environment to ensure a high quality and strong join is achieved.  There is no glue used in the construction of our fenders.  The D-rings on the ends of the fenders are 316 stainless steel.

Hauraki Fenders are like any other product you own; if you take care of them they will serve you well, and conversely if you treat them like rubbish their life span will be reduced.  With proper care and use, your fenders should give you many years of service.

Any fender, no matter what it’s made from, can be grazed or punctured.  We recommend you use Hauraki Fender Covers to increase the graze and puncture resistance of your fenders.
Due care should be taken when positioning fenders.  Ensure the fenders will not come in contact with any surface or object that could cause damage to the fender (such as vent covers, nails, bolts, rough surfaces etc).

While it is possible to pop one of our fenders, it is highly unlikely to occur as it takes an incredible amount of force to happen.  The easiest way to avoid this is to ensure you have enough fenders of the correct size deployed for the situation, the fenders are inflated to the correct operating pressure, and the load is evenly shared among them and over their full surface.

CARE & REPAIR GUIDE

Hauraki Fenders are made from commercial grade PVC, so any normal PVC care products can be used to protect them, such as 303 Aerospace Protectant.

If punctured, Hauraki Fenders can be easily repaired using a standard PVC repair kit available from your local chandlery or inflatable boat repair company. Tear-Aid is also a good option for a fast and effective, glue free repair.

INFLATION GUIDE

Hauraki Fenders can be inflated using any regular inflatable dinghy hand pump or an electric pump.  If you are using an electric pump be sure you don’t over pressurize the fender.  We recommend using a 12v air bed pump or similar.

Hauraki fenders should be inflated to a pressure of 1 psi when they are under ’no load’.

The internal pressure of all inflatable products increases when the air temperature inside them increases, and decreases when the temperature decreases.  This is why you will notice that your fenders are harder (more pressure) during the day and softer (less pressure) at night.  Be sure to regularly check and adjust the pressure in your fenders as the weather and operating conditions change.
